MIT researchers have carried out a study showing various infrastructure that would see electric vehicles’ sales improve by a mile. Others include Sankaran Ramakrishnan and Wei Wei who are a postdoctoral researcher and a graduate, respectively. Last but least, there is Zachary Needell who once did his doctoral in the institution. The findings were based on a wide array of data sets. One of them is the GPS trackers data of various cars. There was also people’s input regarding how often they drive daily and why they do it. While the area of focus was Seattle, the rest of the U.S. was also put into consideration.
For the stakeholders to come up with strategic locations for chargers, the study would be of great help, according to Trancik. It gives them a clear understanding of energy consumers’ behaviour. They could tell the daily and annual consumption behaviour. She added that making electric vehicles the better option for personal cars would help make its adoption even faster.
The researchers studied people’s destinations and where they were coming from as well. They also gave a lot of attention to when they stopped. It is at that particular time that they could have charged their EVs.
